Is there a spiritual side to raving?

I've heard a lot of things about raves, but occasionally I've heard people say that raving is more than just partying and using drugs, and other common associations. This is for the experienced ravers out there, is there a spiritual side to raving for you? Or do you go to raves for anything other than the purely partying aspect?
